Hi Ben. Very nice review of Dance with Dragons. Interesting about your view on John. GRRM hinted at a recent interview in the NY Times that John might indeed not be dead. However, I have a question – unless I have missed the truth somewhere. You mentioned that you are really looking forward to the Clegane brothers meeting in battle again. However, didn’t Sandor die in AFFC – as told by the red priest Thoros told Brienne (I think it was Brienne) that he found him under the tree, took him to the river, gave him some water, but it was too late to save him? Did I miss something?
Keep it up.
Warm regards,
Michael
Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you liked the review. We don’t know for certain yet, but in all likelihood Sandor is still alive. The chapter where Brienne goes to the monastery is the key here. This is the point where we seem to get full confirmation that Sandor is dead, but if you read very carefully you can see that’s probably not the case. The Elder Brother she talks to says The Hound is dead, not Sandor. Brienne also sees a novice whose physical description matches Sandor. The implication seems to be that Sandor has killed The Hound, meaning he’s put aside his violent ways.
