Pets? When I was in college, oh so many years ago, at THE Ohio State University, my wife and I had a squirrel who would come down in front of our apartment. We named him :Willy” after the character in “Dave’s World” ( a popular sitcom of the time).
He would look at us, and occasionally come up to the threshold and look around, if we left the door open. So, one day, I thought I would try to feed him by hand. I crouched down with some food (seeds, bread? I don’t remember) in my hand and slowly he came closer and closer. Just when it looked like it was going to work, he leapt at my face! Luckily, I was wearing a baseball cap, and I only just ducked enough that he sprang off the bill of the hat and ran away. So…we kept our distance from then on.
One more thing, Ben, where do you stand on the squirrel vs. chipmunk debate?

I like them both, but if I had to choose I’m definitely in the squirrel camp
