A “Star Wars” channel might also air any filmed coverage of “Star Wars Celebrations” (there were hours and hours and hours streamed online from this year’s alone)… the unaired but apparently completed 40+ episodes of “Star Wars Detours”… movies that were an influence on “Star Wars” (Flash Gordon serials; Kurosawa films)… the old “Ewoks” and “Droids” cartoons… all the bonus stuff on all the DVDs and Blu-Rays…. heck, they could probably put out a call for fans to produce programming for free, and fans would do it.
If there can be 24/7 channels devoted to the NFL, Golf, and any other number of interests, I’m sure they could program a Star Wars network. Hey, maybe that should be the contest (for those prizes I’m sure Matt will mail): What original programming would you create for a 24/7 “Star Wars” channel?
I also wonder if these all-Marvel or all-Star Wars channels might not be more like YouTube channels… I wonder how many more years the old-style model of “sit in front of the TV and turn on your favorite channel” will be with us, as we increasingly go all-in with on-demand and streaming…
PS. Trust me: Watching “The Phantom Menace” trailer in 1999, after having waited FOREVER for your 56K modem to download it (which only increased the anticipation), was a mind-blowing experience. No, never to be repeated.
