The Booth at the End

I had to share this with you all. A new web series called The Booth at the End which can now be found on Hulu, premiered on the site today. The series is about people who come to see a mysterious man who sits at a booth in a diner all day played by Xander Berkeley. They tell him their wishes and desires and he makes a deal with them. They will get what they want if they preform a task for him that will challenge their sense of morality. The series is composed of 62 episodes directed by Jessica Landaw and written by Christopher Kabasik. This idea is not new by any means. It has been done before in other ways like in Richard Kelly’s The Box. What I like about the pilot is how intimate it is. It all takes place in one location with two characters at a time with the exception of the waitress and patrons in the background. The series also puts characters under a microscope to see what people are willing to do. In this way the series is a character study in ethics. This is one of those stories that makes one theorize what is really going on with the man at the booth the same way they theorize what is really up with the man in black from Lost. The Booth at the End feels like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Watching this makes me wish there were more half hour or hour long web series.
