Lucasfilm recently released a two-minute trailer for the upcoming season of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and, I have to confess: I’m excited!
I don’t think the show’s third year lived up to the generally high standards of its first two (excepting standout entries like the Savage Oppress and Citadel episodes), but this trailer gives me a new hope (couldn’t resist). While the Mon Calamari battle has attracted lots of attention, I’m more intrigued by hints that storylines from the past will start to converge. The Mandalorian warrior faction Death Watch makes a comeback, for instance, and Chancellor Palpatine’s program to clone the Zillo Beast may have borne some fearsome fruit.
The trailer also suggests further links to the live-action films. Darth Sidious’ comment that Sith Empires are “built on the backs of slaves,” juxtaposed with Anakin’s haunted, hooded face, makes me wonder if he’s deciding to intervene and free slaves where Qui-Gon Jinn would not. And a visit, perhaps, to the Mos Eisley cantina? (No sign of a young Bea Arthur, though…)
Added bonus: someone finally tells Threepio, “Suck it up, shiny!” He’s been needing to hear that in all his six million forms of communication for some time.
What are you looking forward to when “The Clone Wars” returns? The new season kicks off September 16, 8 p.m. ET, on Cartoon Network.
Suck it up Shiny! Love the end shot of Rex and his brothers. Hopefully poisoned Snapple is behind us.
