Labor Day weekend! One last gasp of summer in which to kick back, follow Captain Picard’s lead and turn on your “personal relaxation light” and toss another tribble on the grill… Burger! I meant burger! Or, if you’re so inclined, pack the kids, dog and droids in your trusty ol’ escape pod and jettison yourself to the shore, the mountains, or stratospherically priced amusement park of your choice. (Just stay away from John Hammond’s new place on Isla Nublar; I hear there are still a few mosquitoes in the amber that need to be addressed…)
In a few years, “Star Trek” fans may have another destination for which they can set coordinates. Early in 2012, construction should start on the Red Sea Astrarium in Aqaba, Jordan, a resort scheduled to include hotels, shopping, fine dining–and a “Star Trek”-themed “spaceflight adventure.”
And why is the Great Bird of the Galaxy roosting on Jordan? King Abdullah II (then still a prince), one of the project’s major investors, made a walk-on appearance in an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” in 1996. (If you even think about blinking, you’ll miss it!)
The “Star Trek” attraction will, alas, be only one small part of the Astrarium, so you’d be justified in saving your quatloos until we get a full-fledged 23rd/24th century theme park. (That’s right, I said quatloos! Your Republic credits are no good in the Federation!)
What attractions would you want at a “Star Trek” theme park? (Captain Pike’s Beepin’ Wheelchair Bumper Car Rally, anyone?)
Here’s hoping you get to enjoy a rest from your labors this weekend!
I didn’t know you could eat tribbles. Can you?
I bet you there are some ne’er-do-well Starfleet Academy cadets who, instead of swallowing goldfish, swallow tribbles.
Starfleet should band eatting tribbles.Tribbles are adorble little fuzz balls. And what will Mudd sell if all the tribbles are eaten up.
P.S. Did anyone ever tell you are very active and quick to respond. Because you are. : )
Don’t worry, Ace, I was joking! I’m sure tribble eating is not allowed in Starfleet! My original comment was just my little way of saying I think tribbles are one of the more overrated elements of “Star Trek.” That episode is very popular with most folks, just not with me. (I do, however, like the “Deep Space Nine” revisit of “Trouble with Tribbles” very much — have you seen it? What did you think?)
No I don’t think I have seen it. I’m not a big fan of Deep Space Nine I’m more of The Next Generation and Originlal Star Trek.
I thought of something. Do they have any Vulcans in Deep Space Nine?
I can’t think of any Vulcans in DS9 offhand, certainly not as regular characters. Maybe there was a guest Vulcan here or there.
