Another good discussion, guys, and an interesting topic. I think dreams can be explained in terms of physical and psychological factors, but I also believe God can use them should God so choose (just as God can use anything else in nature to reveal himself and his will). I have a friend, for instance, who believes God uses her dreams to bring to her mind her family and friends who happen to be in a time of need; she’ll wake up, contact the person, and find out, more often than not, that she is doing so at a very opportune time. So I definitely think God can use dreams to accomplish his will.

I’d be hesitant to point to the prophets as any evidence of psychic realities, though, since (a) the Bible attributes prophetic knowledge to direct revelation from God: e.g., “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3.7); and (b) although certainly some prophets did at times “tell the future,” they seem really much more interested in “telling the present” – i.e., interpreting the “signs of the time” (current events, social situations, historical figures) in light of God’s will.

Thanks for the amusing analyses of my dream! Looking forward to the discussion of “Inception,” which I haven’t yet seen but definitely will before the next podcast. I don’t “lucid dream,” per se, in terms of controlling what I dream; but I do frequently realize (usually to my great relief) that “Oh, this is just a dream! Whew!”

  2. Great podcast! Thanks for the mention. Below are my thoughts on the episode:

    1. I am fascinated by dreams and I dream all the time. Good job.
    2. You guys are hilarious
    3. Matt, I love when you say, “…brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m not the sister.” It’s important to clarify.
    4. Max grew up in NY, I lived in NY for 4 years, but we live in CT now…so you were both right, in a way.
    5. It’s Pfeffer, not Pfeiffer. 😉
