Four thousand throats may be cut in one night by a running man. — Klingon proverb (Star Trek, “Day of the Dove”)

I think the anonymous Klingon sage quoted above must have been talking about the insanity of Black Friday. If you’re a Star Trek fan who’ll be looking for refuge from frenzied hordes of holiday bargain-hunters and you happen to live in the Chicago area, you can attend A Klingon Christmas Carol.

As the folks at TrekMovie report, this reimagining of Dickens’ classic tale has become something of a holiday tradition. In this version, Scrooge no longer learns about “the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely,” but instead learns to set aside his love of what looks to be gold-pressed latinum in favor of the venerable Klingon virtues of courage and honor.

While the Trek universe’s favorite warrior race gets top billing–the show is in their language, after all–Vulcans and Orions get in on the fun, too:

I’ve never felt compelled to learn Klingon (I had a hard enough time cramming enough biblical Hebrew and Greek to pass my ordination exams), but I have to shout a hearty “Qapla!” to the creators, cast, and crew of this show for their creativity, energy, and commitment.

What holiday favorites would you like to see transposed into a sci-fi key?

This looks really cool. I’ve seen bits of Hamlet done in klingon, but a whole play? I wish I could go see this.

As for other holiday favorites, I think ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ would be very entertaining in Klingon.

Outstanding suggestion, Palindrome! I can hear it now: “That tree is a disgrace, Charlie Brown! You are a blockhead without honor!” Even his pet targ, Snoopy, would be laughing at him!

And maybe, instead of a security blanket, Linus would be clutching a security bat’leth?
