Tons of Sci-Fi Christians have read this book based on my Goodreads feed. What are you thoughts? Are you excited? Is it the next Harry Potter or the next Percy Jackson?

Personally, when reading the book my mind was filled with images of The Running Man. So I want to know who plays Richard Dawson in this film?

I have read the first two in the trilogy, and enjoyed the first a great deal more than the second. The second seemed largely a retread of the first. I’ve heard, though, that it is worth moving onto the third, when “it all pays off.” So.

I am intrigued by the potential for social commentary via the novels (and, I presume, the films), regarding how we as a society treat (or fail to) the less fortunate, how we are obsessed with entertainment even when our neighbors are facing issues of life and death, and so on. The books have some very pointed passages along these lines, as I recall. It will be interesting to see how much of that makes it to the screen — judging from the trailer, quite a bit.

I’d be willing to give this film a try. And casting Donald Sutherland as President Snow is simply inspired (especially once you meet him in the second book).

  2. I, for one, can’t wait. I’m not familiar with “The Running Man,” but I’m on the second book in the Hunger Games series. I love it!

    • Dude…..you have so been missing out! Arnold, Jesse Ventura, and Richard Dawson all converge for what can only be called campy greatness.

  3. ha, this movie looks great! Good ol’ Govenah Arnold. I can see why hungergames made you think of this movie. Year 2017 huh? So I guess there’s going to be a very rapid decrease of human morality in the next five years.

  4. I very much enjoyed reading The Hunger Games, and though a lot of my friends said they loved Catching Fire but then disliked Mocking Jay, I actually enjoyed MJ quite a bit, especially given the places it goes.

    Looking forward to the movie.

P.S. Any thoughts as to why trains seem to be so prominent in Young Adult fiction (Lion-Witch-Wardrobe, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Thomas the Train ;), etc.)?
