Ender’s Game Trailer #1

May 9, 2013

Well, the first look at the upcoming Ender’s Game movie starring Asa Butterfield (Ender Wiggin), Ben Kingsley (Mazer Rackham), Harrison Ford (Colonel Hyrum Graff), Abigail Breslin (Valentine Wiggin), and Hailee Steinfeld (Petra Arkanian). Check it out below:

I have to say, it looks all action and no substance to me. As a huge fan of the novel written by Orson Scott Card, I will definitely see this movie; however, I am hoping that the philosophical and moral themes of the book haven’t all been lost in translation.

What do you think?

I think it’s far too early to tell whether the philosophy and morality have made it to the screen. Of course, trailers are going to emphasize action over other elements. And, at least one website I read (I forget which) made the point that, if you’ve read the book, the trailer has a whole different feel to it, instantly layering depth into the experience. I think this is gonna be a good one!

  2. I enjoyed the trailer a lot. What I read/saw from Orson Scott Card was that they were integrating Ender’s Shadow into Ender’s Game in order to make it possible to make more sense of what’s happening because so much of it happens in Ender’s head. I think it will be a fantastic movie, and I’m a sucker for sci-fi (who’d guess? I am commenting on a sci-fi web site) so I am extra excited. I met OSC a while ago and he was an amazing guy. This is probably my most anticipated movie since Star Wars Episode III (I was young and still had hope back then).
