You guys are kind to have read all my comments “on air.” Not expected, but appreciated!

Matt, I think it’s awesome that you had a Sunday school teacher who was into “Hitch-hiker’s Guide”! No doubt seeds of the SFC were sown! I never had a Sunday school teacher who expressed any interest in genre stuff, except for one teacher in high school who went on at great length describing “The Phantom of the Opera” (the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, not the book or the old movie), only then to announce it was “of the Devil.” I didn’t think so then and don’t think so now. I guess he thought he was warning us. It was hardly a model of fruitful conversation between fantasy and faith!

  2. Time for me to catch up again. Man, wish I would have participated.

I know neither of you are anime fans, but I would add that one of the top 50 Sci-Fi TV shows is Cowboy Bebop. You really have to watch it from beginning to end as the emotional setup in the middle and the payoffs in the end are well worth it. The music was well done and added a lot to the series (obviously this my opinion). Though I don’t know either of personally very well, I suspect Ben may particularly appreciate it. Most episodes are seemingly stand alone, but the need for watching them in order is how character development is achieved. That aside, some of the episodes are purely for fun. It seems as if one of the two of you said you watched a couple episodes and didn’t care for it, I can’t help but say that you are missing out on a great sci-fi series. Not THE greatest, but very good and at it’s best if considered as a whole story. There’s some really good story telling going on, particularly (as I mentioned) in the middle and as the series wraps up (the last 3 episodes are worth watching the rest and give the journey purpose).

  3. I was the second to download this episode, yet I haven’t commented on it, yet. Baffling.

Enjoyed this Retrospective. I wish I knew about the countdown, prior to its initiation, so I could have participated. Nevertheless, I enjoyed its results.

What it proved, more than what sci-fi shows are truly the best, is what The Sci-Fi Christian audience gravitates to. (Hence Heroes being such a dominating figure on the list.) That made for a very interesting dynamic.

Just a couple of goofy sidenotes: Ben’s subtle (err, not so subtle…) innuendos were running rampant on this episode! Caught every one. Also, I could have sworn there was an edit point after Matt called me Steven. By the way, the last clip you played, while edited out, originally ended with, “…and they’re all named Matt.” (Koby)

Anyway, I’m very excited that you’re back and reentering the groove of things. Now, you’ll just have to make sure you crank out as much as you did when you were absent! Not necessarily 1,000 episodes by 2016, though. That’s a little much. 2 – 3 episodes each week is perfect. 🙂

  4. Great episode, but I have to defend Koby about X-Files. I very well remember that when X-Files started on the BBC back in the day, it was advertised as something like, from true FBI case files. Admittedly it became very obvious after a short time that it wasn’t, but it was stated at the start of the first series.
