This is a fair, balanced and thoughtful review of the book, Doctor Sleep.
I had a fairly similar reaction. The villains aren’t particularly threatening to Danny and once their scheme is revealed they seem to fall apart without a great deal of ingenuity or effort on the part of the heroes. But I did read the book in about three days while on holiday and don’t regret it.
I think that some of the material that would be more of what you’d expect from a Shining sequel found its way into another recent novel by Mr King called Joyland.
