This has been on my to read list since seeing it as a recommendation by Neil Gaiman. After seeing your review, I purchased on my kindle. I think you make a great point about this book and the current state of many fantasy books. I am only through three chapters but I am amazed at the depth and social commentary. When we create anything we only have a finite capacity and I think the focus on world building is draining away the power to speak deeply and tell greater stories.
