Hey Matt.
I’m enjoying your podcast. I’ve been listening to you guys for about 6 months on and off. My favorite quote so far…”If Smaug and Sauron had a baby it would be Disney!” That’s a tee shirt right there. Disney is Ungoliant. It consumes good things and expels gloom and darkness.
Anyway. I was thinking about Neo as a messiah figure. Great pick of course. One of you guys mentioned his phone call at the end of the first movie and mentioned how positive it was. Neo said, “I’m going to hang up this phone, and then I’m going to show these people what you don’t want them to see. I’m going to show them a world without you, a world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries, a world where anything is possible.”
There is a dark part of that speech, at least it feels dark to me. It is, “A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries, a world where anything is possible.” It seems to me, that a world without all of these things is a world in chaos. It would be a world where nothing is really possible. If there are no boundaries or borders, you can’t even paint a picture or have a body. Without rules, you can’t even play a game. It seems like Neo (The Wachowski brothers) is saying, we will remake reality as we see fit. We will decide what we want to be, not you. It sounds like anarchy.
What do you think?
