Who’s Coming to Who?

March 7, 2012

If you loved Farscape and Stargate SG1, and you can’t wait for the next series of Doctor Who, then this piece of news will surely make you scream at the fact that we still need to get through at least eight more months before the new episodes arrive. Ben Browder (Farscape‘s John Crichton and SG1‘s Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell) will be making a guest appearance on the upcoming season of Doctor Who! Blastr reports that Browder will be making his Who debut in the third episode of series seven which will take place in the Wild West. This news is too good to be true! If we’re lucky, it won’t be the last time we see him on the show.

  1. Ooh, I can’t remeber Doctor Who ever going to the wild west, but having Ben Browder along for the ride will make it awesome.

Amy and Rory are supposed to leave around episode 3, I wonder if he’ll kil them.

  2. Or maybe, and if this is the case then AWESOME, he will be the new companion.

Definitely looking forward to it! In related news, there is a rumor (report?) that Bernard “Smaug” “Sherlock” Cumberbatch is going to be The Master. Should make for an awesome series 7 all around!

    • Absolutely! I can’t wait. I will miss Amy and Rory (especially Rory), but it will be fun to see who the next companion will be–perhaps an alien?

      • I’m really hoping the new companion will be an alien, or if it has to be human, one that isn’t from this century or one that doesn’t come from earth. I’m getting really tired of early 21st century companions. The TARDIS is a time machine. We used to have companions from all over the ‘verse.

I would be game for a companion from some other time frame, but, again, in the revived series, the role of the companion is to be the viewer’s surrogate. So I wouldn’t hold my breath for a non-early 21st century companion, nor an alien. Yes, the TARDIS is a time machine; but TV is TV.

I will miss the Ponds, too, but I do hope the new companion is a human. I know there were alien companions in Classic Who, and call me “speciesist,” but it sems the Companion’s narrative and dramatic function is to be our human surrogate in the Doctor’s world. So I say the Companions should be (to lift a phrase from Star Trek VI) “a homo sapiens only club” – at least the main Companions, anyway.
