The SFC 2014 Trick-or-Treat Starts Tomorrow!

October 25, 2014

scary-woodsAnyone could see that the wind was a special wind this night, and the darkness took on a special feel because it was All Hallows’ Eve.

—Ray Bradbury, The Halloween Tree

Bradbury was right: There is something special about Halloween. No, it’s not a Christian holiday (although it owes its origins, in part, to the Christian liturgical calendar); and, yes, some of the ways our society celebrates it run to excess and glorify sin, evil, the devil, and death. But because we believe God is victorious over the darkness, we at The Sci-Fi Christian don’t see Halloween as something to fear or reject out-of-hand. Instead, it can be a time for having fun with families and friends, exercising our imaginations, and even enjoying a good scare or two, knowing that, because of Jesus Christ, we truly have nothing to fear.

So pull on your costume, grab your flashlight and an empty pillowcase, and spend this week trick-or-treating on The SFC’s street! Each day, from October 24-31, one of our contributors will recommend a book, movie or TV show, video game, or some other sci-fi or fantasy-related goodie for your Halloween enjoyment. We hope you’ll let us know what you think, and maybe even recommend some “treats” of your own!

We’re leaving the light of our cyber-porch on for you—make sure you stop by!
