First, I’d love to see an Episode Title of the Year category. (Any title involving a Noah pun would be a front runner for me.)
Now for the nominations:
1. Episode of the Year: “The Bible as Art” and “The Cult of Sherlock.” I’m sure there’s a healthy dose of recency bias here, but these two really got me thinking, and I like when the SFC gets me thinking. And now that I think about it, I’ll throw in “The Impossible Puzzle” as well.
2. Top 5 of the Year: I enjoyed hearing the 25 things you hope to experience by episode 350. Not a top 5 per se, but it is a countdown, and I think it’s a fun gimmick.
3. Movie Review Episode of the Year: I liked Guardians of the Galaxy, and I liked your review.
4. Funniest Episode of the Year: Whatever episode it was that first revealed Ben’s affinity for squirrels.
5. Guest of the Year: Clay Morgan. Some of his stories are still seared in my brain.
6. Time Loop Episode of the Year: The Superpowers in the Mission Field one was fun.
7. Lack of Follow-Through Award: This wasn’t exactly promised, but I kinda miss the contests.
8. Most Shocking Sci-Fi News of 2014: Guardians of the Galaxy wins summer. (Maybe not-so-shocking in retrospect, but remember all the joking and general derision when this movie was first announced?)
9. Biggest Sci-Fi Disappointment of 2014: Thankfully, none. I pretty much only saw/read things I ended up liking.
10. Sci-Fi Movie of the Year: Guardians of the Galaxy (though I get the feeling I’ll be voting for Interstellar in the actual poll).
11. Sci-Fi TV Show of the Year: Doctor Who, I guess?
12. Sci-Fi Book of the Year: I generally don’t read books the year they’re published…
13. Sci-Fi Video Game of the Year: Destiny — not based so much on actual achievement but on ambition and its kick-butt commercial.
14. The Topic That The Sci-Fi Christian Should Have Covered In 2014, But Didn’t: Top 5 Non-Stereotypical Female Characters in Sci-Fi.
15. Video of the Year: The (as yet unreleased?) Ben DeBono Beer Show crossover. The Ben DeBono Beer show is, by far, my favorite YouTube beer show.
The Ben De Bono Beer Show Crossover is here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znbbDQvKgtY
Oh dear. So many choices to make.
1. Episode of the Year: “Does God Exist” This episode hit me just as I was having a ‘crisis of faith’. Great episode.
2. Top 5 of the Year: Top 25 Things We want to experience by Episode 350
3. Movie Review Episode of the Year: Captain America: Winter Soldier Movie Review
4. Funniest Episode of the Year: Ancient Aliens
5. Guest of the Year: Allan and Aaron Reini
6. Time Loop Episode of the Year: “Lost Part 2.5” I have to say, Lost Part 2 was especially interesting to me because I had been thinking about to what extent art is subjective and this episode had a small, but fascinating, discussion on that topic.
7. Lack of Follow-Through Award: I cannot think of anything to fit in this category.
8. Most Shocking Sci-Fi News of 2014: It comes down to either the Pope baptizing aliens or Heroes returning.
9. Biggest Sci-Fi Disappointment of 2014: Nothing really comes to mind. I suppose I’ll nominate the fact that Transformers 4 did so well in the box office.
10. Sci-Fi Movie of the Year: Divergent. Great movie, lots of stuff to think about inside.
11. Sci-Fi TV Show of the Year: As much as I love Doctor Who, the current season isn’t amazing. I will nominate Continuum. (Season 3 aired in March 2014).
12. Sci-Fi Book of the Year: Shadow Play by Joel A. Parisi. This is about the only book I read that came out this year.
13. Sci-Fi Video Game of the Year: I don’t play video games that much.
14. The Topic That The Sci-Fi Christian Should Have Covered In 2014, But Didn’t: I think an episode on art, what it is, and the amount of subjectivity allowed when rating it. Should any be allowed? Should everyone subscribe to the same rating system?
15. Video of the Year: The Paradise Lost episodes as a whole. I had to suffer through that book in High School and it was awful. Congratulations to Ben for actually enjoying something I couldn’t.
16. Episode Title of the Year: “Cult of Sherlock” This is an awesome title.
You must have a time machine, Jesse. We didn’t record our Captain America 2 review until just a few hours ago. Look for it in the next few days
Episode 244
Episode 244 was a Captain America Movie Review with Matt Anderson, Koby Radcliffe, & BJ McElrath. Perhaps I will change my vote once I’ve heard this new one.
It will be the next episode we release, Jesse. Check it out…soon…
